Chrysler Group is bringing back the Dodge Dart - Italian style, said the Los Angeles Times. The automaker's Dodge division last offered a Dart in 1976, when bell-bottom pants were popular and the angular Dart models had names like Swinger and Hang 10, the Times said. This time, Chrysler says the Dart will be more curvy and stylish, the Times said.
The 2013 Dart rides on a front-wheel-drive platform adapted from the Alfa Romeo Giulietta, Car and Driver said, adding the small Alfa is a fine driver's car. The Dart's appearance fulfills Dodge's sportiness claims two images showing details of an up-level R/T model are very Charger-like, the magazine said.
The 2013 Dart rides on an Americanized (lengthened and widened) platform adapted from Fiat's well regarded Alfa Romeo Giulietta what the company is calling its Compact U.S. Wide (CUSW) architecture that is an advanced design with 68 percent high-strength steel to cut weight, USA Today said. The company promised Euro style driving dynamics, with upscale four wheel independent suspension, uncommon in the compact segment, the paper said.
Photos of the front and rear of the Dart reveal sharply angled head-lamps, as well as a grille and rear spoiler similar to the Dodge Charger, the Detroit Free Press said. The aerodynamic look is intended to appeal more to younger buyers than the Dodge Caliber crossover that the Dart replaces, the paper said.
From what we have seen from the teaser pictures, it looks smoking hot, Aaron Bragman, automotive analyst for IHS Automotive told the Detroit Free Press. The Dart is one of the more positive names in Chrysler's brand-portfolio history, Bragman said.
